2021 (25'44"), three-channel video installation
Leere Orchestra is an essayistic 3-channel video work that examines the past, the present, and an undetermined future of the artist and her milieu. The title Leere Orchestra is the artist's German translation of the word karaoke (jap. カラオケ, "empty orchestra"). Karaoke is made of two words: から(空) means emptiness but also fake. "Oke" stands for orchestra. In South Korean work and everyday culture, the karaoke bar is an important social place, which is why these are also frequented by Koreans abroad. The bars become the focal point of diasporic communities - and the singing is an expression of the connection to home.
